This was originally done for a project for digital illustration. The project was to choose any quote from Henry David Thoreau and use it to design a t-shirt around. At the time, the project was intended to be made into actual shirts, and we had a three color limit. For my portfolio, I was able to move past that limit to allow for a much more interesting design. I also changed a lot of the elements of this because of the sloppiness of my original version. I will post the original first below, followed by my reworks for comparison.
I am open to any ideas on improvement of this design, but I may be hesitant as I really like where I took it. However, if something just isn't a successful design choice, I will change it.

I like the changes, I think it is ready for your portfolio
ReplyDeleteVery nice, you do fantastic design work
ReplyDeleteIan – your rework is lively, beautiful and engaging. Only question I have is the placement and styling of his byline. Either find a way to integrate it into the negative space you have left for it up top, or move it to the bottom right. Currently it traps some awkward negative space below itself. I’d be tempted to move it
ReplyDeleteIan,
ReplyDeleteThe choices you've made for this design have worked wonderfully well for it! The colors chosen for the volume meters suggest exactly what they mean and the choice to make the circles three dimensional suggest speakers much better. I believe the reason for the type placement was to suggest musical notes? Maybe what the other half of the quote needs to go on the lower musical suggestion? This way you get to keep what you're implying but you gain some consistency in the design.
