Project 2 Rework - Samael Portrait

This is my first rework of my portrait project. I changed the background to a color that provides more contrast and color balance to the piece, while easing it towards neutrals so as not to have it distract from the other elements. I added definition to the right hand, and I added a lyric from a song that he likes. I chose the font "My Biopsy" because of its degraded look which reflects its subject matter and the thoughtful attitude of the piece in general.
I am looking for any additional feedback on how to improve this.

  1. Ian – adding this type makes a lot of sense to me. However, please look at the negative space, and realize that your placement of the type is really crowding the illustration. I think you’ll need to break the text in more places… in fact, why not interpret the type more… by breaking it you will be adding pauses in the reading. It will help the composition if the type extends down further on the page, and it will help your illustration have “breathing room.” You may need to lighten the background to create more contrast between it and the type. Credit should read “Excerpted from Abradadavre by Elena Seigman” (no quote marks needed) and it should sit somewhere intention… currently it is floating randomly in space. Please add leading to it.

  2. The solid color works well, choosing to give us a texture with the type instead. As Coni said, the type could be placed in a more expressive way, but it does add to the image. There's a lot of space to play with here and it could get quite interesting. I will mention again, that you might want to use a shadow at the feet of the person to ground him in the image.
