I really like his work because he shows advertising using shape, negative space, color, and type. It's very inspiring because you can say a lot by using the right shape, color and type,

Very strong in illustration in these ads he created. He creates illustrations also using type and putting it all together. Also showing a great selection on colors in these illustrations.

Loving hiking and traveling his work reminds me of outdoors like using shape, typography and shaping it all together. His work is very unique and something that you don't always see. Its very traditional especially his logo work.

  1. Tatjana – I looked closely at the Mike Kus site and notice a few things. The color work in his photos is outstanding! Look at what he has done, in a very subtle way, to create beautiful color harmonies in the photos. But… this collection of photos sits at the bottom of the Contact page… strangely. In fact, I think that there are some other strange things about this portfolio site. Like… when I mouse over the modular grid on the Portfolio page I get a blurb about the project, but I can no longer see the project. I find that unfortunate. I also wish I could click on the different portfolios listed at the bottom of the page and be taken to a collection of his graphics, or web design, or branding, or illustration, or photography. So, the UX design, in my opinion, leaves something to be desired. That said – I think his project work is great!

I'd be curious about what other's think about his site...

His work seems to be largely of branding, but his approach seems to be quite unique. I like his use of visual texture of the paw-prints for the business cards which in turn matches the signs he has created for them. I like his use of line that he has used for Kairos, and the change he made for the tennis advertising. The two logos obviously belong to the same set, but they are still rooted in the "tied shoestring" idea, which makes it clever.

The amount of variety here sure surprised me, but what I love most of all is the drawn line he brought to his pieces. The choice of close up images for his printed t-shirts was well made, it gives an added feel of the tactile texture of the shirt. He seems to enjoy using visual texture quite a bit, take his Beliyf for example, he's done his design over the leaves. It makes for a striking visual design and is very effective.

What I particularly enjoy from this designer is his illustrations, that I would like to see more of. In these, I think his use of line is very good. Unfortunately the rest of his work, while it is good, I feel that I have seen before and could use a little more originality.

  3. Something I noticed while looking at this selection of portfolios was the similar "stripped-down" feel of the work in all three of them; most of the pieces in each of the portfolios seemed to be very smooth, colorful, clean, and crisp. I think my favorite of the three was probably the Mike Kus portfolio, with its wide range of work and styles (from pixel art to painted leaves), thought I will agree with Coni that the navigation and choices of what is and is not in the portfolio are a bit confusing.
