Here's the other 3/4 of the service learning project.
A project for the band 9teen a soul/rock Steely Dan tribute band:
I gathered photos from the website and facebook
page and after working on different arrangements and research began
illustrating them. The soul albums I had looked at largely featured a
one color background and seemed to very often be painted. I
thought it best to stick with their logo colors, so it has the pink
background to add the general color with white and black for shadows and
highlights. Blues albums are typically black and white "monochromatic"
pictures, thus I fused these two ideas. The illustrations will be
couched around the logo and the
brass instruments are on the bottom, depicting how they are foundational
to the band's sound.

Service Learning Tshirt Design Edits
I had thought that possibly an issue in the design was that the front and the back were too similar.
I have chosen to look up how this camera equipment really looks when directing light.
The back now reflects what it looks like when attempting a vertical light beam.

This was the piece from Motion Graphics, the only part I really had any desire to have in the portfolio.
It is now a complete illustration with all the line drawn in illustrator. I used much pencil to keep that sketched feel, I added highlights as well. It is meant to have an inked feel, with color painted over the ink.
I hope you enjoy it,

Here are three options, I have chosen A, which returns the center graphic to black
and leaves the texture yellow and blue. I feel it hints at mixing, given the textured type is green at the bottom.
B turns the back text texture to green, alternatively.
C has the text texture background in black, with the center graphic in green,
which was originally suggested at the end of typography by Coni, I believe.

This magazine design was created for Publication Design, a quarterly magazine about taking a day for relaxation. What was suggested for changing was the blue background color on the cover and the spread.
I have also brightened the color on the yarn. I didn't have any other notes for adjustment written down,
if you have any suggestions please feel free to say so.

The New Adjustments

This was the poster for typography, it was decided that I could use a little more color.
Following the idea with the martini glass, I used yellow and blue with green at the mixing point.
I thought I could use color for the text texture background because that is also used in the lower right corner.
With the addition of color the balance of color vs. black and white is quite balanced.
Let me know if you think the color use becomes excessive.

Here is the new psa for Design Theory. With this project in general, I was intrigued by the idea that according to the statistics there had to be a large number of people at the college parties who had no desire to be there at all. I informed the viewer of the image in the subtitle/body copy to reinforce the idea provided by the title and image: an emergency situation from which no one breaks away. The title is also a metaphor for refusing alcohol abuse.

This was a single page psa website which adapts for mobile, done for advanced web.
These are drawings that I had done used in the site, and it tells the story of the character.
In the second to last frame there is some tension because he is gone, and along with the
subject matter that could mean a number of things. In the last frame we find that he has
found help. Let me know if you see anything worth changing.
Hello All,
These next few uploads are going to need feedback before re-work what can be improved and changed.
This was an illustration I had done for Motion Graphics, it was originally drawn in pencil then inked.
I scanned it and brought it into Illustrator and using an low opacity "inked" over it like a water color.
The original drawing shows through the layers.

This was a psa poster designed for Design Theory about College Drinking.
The data suggests that some of the people involved in drinking at college must not want to be there.
They realize they have a problem, but do not wish to become uninvolved. The psa's aim was to
suggest this issue, the idea of questioning what is really going on. The new psa is a complete redesign,
which hopes to better suggest the idea of questioning the situation and images.

The type has been integrated further into the design. To fit the type, a good deal of the design had to be adjusted; this is visible in the comparison. I created emphasis with color, and chose to reflect the journals of Thoreau with a handwriting styled font. Please let me know how you think this has turned out.
